Sabbath

Photo of Sabbath Quilt

Machine and hand pieced, machine and hand appliqued, machine quilted, hand beaded, hand embroidered.

Sabbath design is an original and is loosely based on a place in the Rock Creek Park. The trees, sky, water and bridge are machine pieced. Some of the detail bushes and tree roots are hand pieced and appliqued. Detailing includes raw edge applique of the leaves on the trees, hand embroidered detailing for the support beams and rails of the bridge and shoreline brush, hand beading with seed beads for the bushes. Machine quilting includes a combination of meander styles and quilted faces in the sky. The quilt was purchased by Erickson Retirement Communities for use as a banner for the ecumenical service of Greenspring Village. The quilt uses many of the same fabrics as the companion piece, "Heavens Declare". 23.5" x 42.5"

Quilt displayed at Sacred Threads 2003.
