Taste & See: Jacobean Dream
I have worked on this piece off and on for many years.
The pieced background came first. And, on its own it told me it wasn’t done. Then, I added the black border.
Still, it said it wasn’t done. Finally, with the addition of the Jacobean floral (and grapes) it said what
I wanted. I wanted to fill the “empty” space with quilting, but not just any design.
Another Jacobean floral design worked well to fill the space. 35” x 34” wide. This quilt was displayed at the
Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in February 2008.
Tobu
I've enjoyed revisiting blue and white quilts but with a different
inspiration. This piece features indigo blue fabrics, including a Japanese shibori fabric.
The
central piece was purchased and I enhanced it with the kanji "Tobu". Tobu means "to fly". Layout based on concepts I learned from Judy Hopkins'
Design Your Own Quilts (out of print). Machine pieced, machine appliqued, machine
quilted, 18 inches by 24 inches. Quilt in
private collection.
Essence of Fan
With my friends, we cut up a photo I took when I lived in Japan and
made our own fabric interpretation. Each member of the group was
free to use whatever technique they wanted in making their section. 54 inches by 36 inches. Displayed at the Greenbelt Courthouse, February - March 2008.
Notecards of this piece are available. Variety of techniques.
Working for Peace
I've been exploring African culture. I was inspired by these women (a South African panel)
and my assortment of African fabrics to make this piece. My research and exploration led to new
appliqué designs in the use of adinkra images. I wanted these women to be working together
(the bottom image) for peace (top small image). The layout method was inspired by Judy Hopkins'
Design Your Own Quilts (out of print). My prayer is that we may learn to work together
to gain peace. Machine pieced, machine appliqued, machine
quilted. 25.5" x 34.5" This quilt displayed at Sacred Threads (Reynoldsburg,
OH) in June 2007. Also displayed at the
Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in February 2008.
Quilt in private collection.
